Music in Healthcare Settings Training week, Brighton February 25th – March 1st 2013

A fantastic opportunity to explore the use of music to enhance well-being for children and young people in Healthcare settings. The course will introduce you to the thinking behind interactive music for well-being and will combine theoretical learning with practical music making and on site visits to The Royal Alexandra Hospital in Brighton. 

 Skills required: 
  • Previous music leading experience working with social as well as musical outcomes.Competency on at least one instrument/voice, appropriate repertoire and basic improvisation skills. 
  • Competency on at least one instrument/voice, appropriate repertoire and basic improvisation skills.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills. 
  • Hospitals can be extremely challenging places to work due to the conditions of some of the patients and the high demands placed on staff. Applicants will need to be confident that they are able to work in this environment.
Objectives:
  • Understand and explore the place of music in health settings and related ethical issues 
  • Identify and explore the theoretical and practical skills needed to work as a musician in health care settings 
  • Musical techniques and approaches (vocal and instrumental repertoire, appropriate instruments, improvisation) 
  • Spatial awareness and interaction with patients and families 
  • Working in partnership with health institutions and care staff 
The week course will be led by Nick Cutts and Kate Murdoch

Time: 9.30-5pm Daily
Location: TBC – Brighton & Hove
Course Fee: £120
Refreshments: Tea and Coffee will be available, however to keep costs down we ask you to provide your own lunch

Rhythmix reserve the right to reclaim the full cost of this course should the participant above fail to attend any part of the course. A contract will be issued to participants once a place has been offered to guarantee commitment to the course. Places are limited and will be allocated at the discretion of Rhythmix.
